How to Help Your Baby Have a Good Oral Health

How to Help Your Baby Have a Good Oral Health

Your baby deserves an oral health that is strong and successful. Fortunately, there are things you can do regularly to help them achieve that status. Our dentist, Dr. Matthew Warlick, is more than happy to help you help your child by telling you all about the things you should do for their teeth and gums. You should:

-Wash their gums after each feeding when they don’t have teeth yet (All you need to do is wipe the gums with a clean, wet washcloth.)

-Clean their little chompers when they grow into place (Just use a child-sized, soft-bristled toothbrush and infant toothpaste to clean their teeth twice a day.)

-Bring your baby to our office around their first birthday (This can help your child become familiar with the dental office and it can allow our team to give you the tips you need.)

-Don’t let your child fall asleep with a bottle of milk (This is because if your child takes a bottle to bed, it can increase their chances of having baby bottle tooth decay.)

-Make oral hygiene fun (Sing a song or play a game while you brush your little one’s teeth. This can help make oral hygiene fun now and in the future.)

-Don’t worry about flossing their teeth until our dental team recommends flossing (This is because their teeth aren’t too tightly knit together. Because of this, the toothbrush bristles sneak between the teeth and clean the area easily while you brush.)
