A Single Tooth with a Large Cavity Might Need a Dental Crown

Your routine dental checkups at Contemporary Dental Arts’s dental office is designed to detect early signs of oral cancer, periodontal health problems, and cavities. This is an important step in prevention and treatment of most oral health maladies.

Yet it is still possible for a cavity to develop on one or your teeth in between your regularly scheduled dental checkups. If it goes unnoticed or ignored even a small area of tooth decay can quickly spread to compromise a significant amount of previously healthy tooth enamel.

If the affected tooth is small, or the area of tooth decay is large, there might not be sufficient healthy tooth enamel remaining to secure a simple dental filling. In a case like this Dr. Matthew Warlick and his associates might recommend performing a dental crown restoration.

This mode of treatment will completely replace the tooth’s enamel layer with a special type of dental material.

To do this Dr. Matthew Warlick will effectively numb the tooth and surrounding gums. Then he will remove the tooth enamel layer. Once this is done he will then create an impression of the abutment and the surrounding teeth. It will be delivered to the dental lab that will create your new dental crown.

A second appointment will be needed when your dental crown is ready. Dr. Matthew Warlick will then cement it in place with a strong dental adhesive to complete the dental restoration.

If you have a cavity on one of your teeth and you live in the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area, you should call 918-459-9090 to seek treatment at Contemporary Dental Arts.
