Dr. Matthew Warlick of Tulsa Family Dental is proud to offer Teeth Whitening services to patients in Tulsa, Broken Arrow and surrounding areas of Oklahoma. Even those who take exceptionally good care of their teeth can experience yellowing due to aging, coffee stains, or tobacco use. Having a Teeth Whitening procedure is an ideal way to regain a brilliant and youthful smith without investing a great deal of time.
Before beginning Teeth Whitening, it is important to clean and polish teeth in order to remove plaque and tartar buildup, since these substances can also cause teeth to appear yellow. Once the teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, a dental hygienist will normally dry them thoroughly with a piece of gauze. The hygienist may also insert a retractor into the mouth, so that a patient’s lips and tongue do not come in contact with the whitening solution.
The whitening solution is applied to the surface of the teeth with a small brush, or a whitening gel may be added to a tray and then placed on top of the teeth. The solution is typically left in place for anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes. A curing light may be used during this time in order to intensify the whitening agent’s ability to penetrate the teeth.
After the allotted time, teeth are thoroughly rinsed to remove any residue, and all materials are then removed from the mouth. Patients can typically eat and drink within 30 minutes after a Teeth Whitening session; however, they should avoid consuming items that could stain the teeth for at least 24 hours. Those who have extremely yellowed teeth may require more than one session in order to achieve the desired results.
